I Don't Dream About the Future

Project type

Solo Exhibition

Date

October-November 2024

Location

Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Dallas, TX

In my solo exhibition, I DON'T DREAM ABOUT THE FUTURE, I explore imagined landscapes as contemplative spaces to pause and reflect on themes of personal narrative and the transient nature of time. Inspired by feelings of temporal displacement, this body of work examines the relationship between linear and cyclical time, questioning how these concepts shape our perception of life.
Using vibrant colors, abstract forms, and dimensional elements, I construct landscapes that evoke dreams, memories, and parallel realities—spaces where past, present, and future converge. For example, in Mirage Door, a red half-sphere commands attention amidst a desolate greyscale desertscape of mountains and cacti. Concentric thresholds or portals within the half-sphere lead to another red half-sphere, representing an objective or endpoint that suggests a linear timeline. These elements are mirrored in another piece, implying a cyclical relationship that extends across the entire exhibition. Recurring motifs like the red dot and three-dimensional forms symbolize the pursuit of growth and the ever-evolving nature of existence.
I DON'T DREAM ABOUT THE FUTURE serves as a meditation on the fluidity of time, encouraging viewers to navigate these spaces and discover their own narratives within them.
